BRIEF HISTORY
In 1988, after a violent coup led by the military, many Kachin students and youth were forced to flee to the border areas. To unite under one organization, we gathered all Kachin students living in exile and established the Overseas Kachin Students Organization (OKSO) in 1995. This organization later evolved into the All Kachin Students and Youth Union (AKSYU) to include Kachin students both inside and outside the country, thereby increasing our strength. AKSYU joined the SYCB in 1996.
In 1998, we founded the Thailand branch of the All Kachin Students and Youth Union in Chiang Mai, comprising Kachin youth and students based in Thailand. Following a decision by our Executive Committee, we officially launched the European Union Chapter of AKSYU on February 20, 2002. Recently, in September 2002, we established the AKSYU China branch in the border town of Laiza, which includes members from within Kachin State.
All Kachin Students and Youth Union (AKSYU) is currently a member organization of Students and Youth Congress of Burma (SYCB), United Nationalities Youth League(UNYL).
